It can be quite scary to come across a large truck acting erratically or making dangerous maneuvers on the roadway. You may try to get away from the vehicle or to keep your distance, but that does not remove the risk from the road.

A truck driver with bad driving habits or who is currently not driving safely needs to no longer be on the road. You have the power to help see that happen through several reporting options, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.

Contact a Post

If you know the nearest post, you can contact it directly. The dispatcher there will be able to radio an officer and hopefully, he or she will be close enough to respond quickly. This may be the best option in a serious situation where you think an accident is imminent and you know the contact number.

Call 911

If you do not know the phone number of the closest patrol post, your best option is to call 911. However, you should only do this if the driver is putting other motorists at risk or about to cause an accident. Remember 911 is for emergencies only.

Use the helpline

You also have the option of dialing the Nebraska State Patrol Highway Helpline. You can access this by dialing *55. It will allow you to make contact with the post quickly. You also can explain the situation and your concerns to allow the post to decide what actions to take next.

File a form

If there is no immediate safety risk, but you do have a concern about the driving of a truck, you can file a complaint form on the patrol’s website. This is a slow option, but it will give you the chance to leave all the information you want and to explain the situation.

When a truck driver is not driving safely, it is a concern for everyone on the road. A truck accident is something to avoid as they are often very serious and deadly.
