Most workers' compensation lawyers are good people and good lawyers. The best workers' compensation lawyers have a background that includes more than simply going to college, then to law school, then taking the first job they could find, or opening their own firm because no one would hire them. These backgrounds include, but are not limited to, military service, employment in industry where there are working people and families who struggle to make a living, and former or current business owners. Experience is more important than advanced degrees in practicing workers' compensation law. To be a good plaintiff's lawyer, one must first have a heart, and then a steely will to work hard and to never give up.
The good lawyers are going to be frank. They are going to be honest and straightforward with the injured trucker about the strengths and the weaknesses of the case.
We believe the best approach to working with an injured trucker is to be completely candid in every conversation, almost to the point of bluntness. There are often many unknowns in a case. A single fact can turn a case in a different direction. The lawyer must be completely open and honest with the injured trucker, because it is better for the injured trucker and their family to hear the bad news from their own lawyer before they get it from somewhere or someone else.
We do not believe any injured truck driver ought to hire any workers' compensation lawyer in Nebraska, or in any other state for that matter, unless that lawyer is a member of the Workers' Injury Law & Advocacy Group (WILG). WILG is a national network of workers' compensation attorneys who work together and discuss, via an on-line forum, common topics involved in workers' compensation. If a lawyer is not a member of WILG, they do not have the benefit of the vast experience of this group of lawyers in handling workers' compensation matters.
