ATRI Study to Identify Safe, Younger Drivers

Image result for young truck drivers The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) is working to identify the next generation of sale commercial drivers using data on seasoned professionals.  ATRI, in phase one of its research, has identified the characteristics of safe, older commercial drivers in hopes of developing a Younger Driver Assessment Tool.  The study uses existing scientific literature that compares character traits against associated safety outcomes. Personality, health and cognition have been identified in the report as predictors of safe driving.

CRASH PREVENTABILITY STUDY

Image result for crash preventability study Motor carriers with eligible accidents have the opportunity to participate in FMCSA's Crash Preventability Demonstration Program, which started August 1, 2017. The study is expected to last a minimum of 24 months. FMCSA believes studies show that crash involvement is a strong indicator of future crash risk, while many stakeholders agrue that preventability should be taken into consideration. The program will put those arguments to the test. A crash is eligible for participation in the program if it occurred on or after June 1, 2017 and the:

SLEEPER-BERTH TIME

Image result for sleeper berth time Depending on the results of an FMCSA pilot program, relief may soon be on the way for commercial truck drivers who use a sleeper berth. The agency plans to recruit 200 truck drivers to participate in the pilot, which would allow them to use their sleeper berths in shorter chunks of time without sacrificing work hours.
