Electronic Logging Devices

As a law firm with extensive trucking litigation experience, we are always keeping up on the current news. This may be old news  to some, but the Electronic Logging Devices are coming into effect.PeopleNet_TABLET_InCab_HomeScreen_061913.jpg

According to the FMCSA's final rule on electronic logging devices (ELDs), commercial motor carriers currently using paper logs will be required to use ELDs by December 18, 2017. Between now and then, motor carriers have a lot to plan for, such as getting familiar with the mandate and managing the operational changes that will come with switching from paper to electronic logs.

The ELD rule is intended to help create a safer work environment for drivers, and make it easier, faster to accurately track, manage, and share records of duty status data. An ELD synchronizes with a vehicle engine to automatically record driving time, for easier, more accurate hours of service recording.
