The Numbers Don't Lie

The number of motor vehicle deaths in 2016 is estimated to be the highest in nearly a decade.

The National Safety Council estimates that as many as 40,000 people died in motor vehicle crashes in 2016. That marks a 6% increase over 2015 and a 14% increase over 2014 - the most dramatic two-year escalation in 53 years. In 2015, Nebraska had 218 fatal crashes resulting in 246 deaths.

The estimated cost of motor-vehicle deaths, injuries, and property damage in 2016 was $432.5 billion, an increase of 12% from 2015. The costs include wage and productivity losses, medical expenses, administrative expenses, employer costs, and property damage.
